PhraseLocker
What is PhraseLocker?
PhraseLocker is a random password generating tool that takes a different approach to traditional tools out there. It focuses on solving some common problems that online account users tend to encounter:
- Forgetting your passwords.
- Creating complicated passwords.
- Writing down passwords in unsafe places
Most users develop an unhealthy cycle of losing track of their own passwords and have to resort to that good ol' "forgot password?" button. I bet that email is FULL of one-time authentication codes. Fret not, my dear friend. Well, how does PhraseLocker attempt to solve these problems? With a method some might call strange, but effective.
How does PhraseLocker work?
PhraseLocker requires you to enter a phrase, which will act as your "Locker", and will be used internally to generate your password. This phrase can be anything from a memorable quote to a song lyric that you love. Ideally, this phrase is just a collection of words that you can always remember, but remembering is not a prerequisite to use this tool. PhraseLocker only requires that you enter multiple words. The more words in the phrase, the stronger the password that will be created.
After entering your phrase and pressing the button, two things will happen. PhraseLocker will generate your random password along with a "Key" which you will store instead of your password. You might be thinking, "This just sounds like such a long and unnecessary process. I just want my new password". Patience, friend. It will all make sense in a second.
The Phrase, the Key and the Locker
The phrase represents the Locker, which will be used to store your password. Not in memory or in a database, but within itself. Why a phrase? A phrase is something rememberable and often personalized.
Purpose of this tool?
The purpose of this tool is to better the way we create passwords, improve the security of password protected accounts worldwide and encourage the use of secure, complex impersonal passwords.
Remembering a password is often dificult for most people and we tend to store it somewhere. Either a piece of paper or maybe in your notes app. The problem is that when we store it, we risk it being discovered by a malicious user trying to steal your credentials. If we instead store information used to calculate our password, the "hacker" would have a reasonably harder time trying to figure it out.
Why Should I Use this to create my passwords?
You might say, "Why should I try to remember a phrase AND a key when I can't even remember a password?" My answer: If you really don't have a favorite quote, song or lyric that you can remember, you can just save the phrase & key together. Saving those is safer than saving a password since the key & phrase would be useless to someone who doesn't know which method you used to create your password.

Conclusion:
Passwords should be smart, relatively easy to remember and hard to guess. In other words, if you were born in July 3rd, 1985 and you have a cat named Tom, you probably shouldn't use the password "TomTheCat1985" since someone who is actively trying to access your account would resort to many methods, including guessing your password based on your interests, public personal information, status updates, or other online activity. So, go ahead... Make a password. It's free.
